Detailed Information

The Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge Society (SCARS), also known as Sippy Creek Animal Refuge Society Inc, has been a pillar of compassion and care for abandoned, abused, stray, and unwanted cats and dogs since its establishment in 1979. As an independent, non-profit, charitable organization with a strict non-euthanasia policy, SCARS provides temporary refuge and works tirelessly to find loving homes for these animals. Vet checked, vaccinated, wormed, desexed, microchipped, and medically treated if necessary, all cats and dogs at SCARS are prepared for adoption into responsible and caring households.

Managed by an unpaid, elected committee and supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, SCARS operates from a spacious 1.08-hectare site at Sippy Creek Road, Tanawha. With the capacity to house approximately 50 dogs and 50 cats at any given time, the Refuge accepts animals from the Sunshine Coast Council Pound and private surrenders. The organization also conducts educational programs on responsible animal ownership, emphasizing the importance of providing a safe and loving environment for pets.

SCARS relies on the generosity of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Partnership Funding program, bequests, local businesses, clubs, and the community at large to continue its vital work. The organization welcomes volunteers aged 18 and above to assist with various tasks, including feeding, cleaning, maintenance, and more. By supporting SCARS through donations, bequests, or volunteering, individuals can contribute to the welfare and well-being of countless cats and dogs in need.
