Dutch Shepherd

The Dutch Shepherd (also known as the Hollandse Herder) comes in three distinct variations, the shorthaired, the longhaired and the rough haired shorthaired, longhaired, and rough haired. For all coat types, permissible colours are the same in all these three types. The longhaired Dutch Shepherd is a rare variety. The shorthaired variety is rather widespread in Holland. The rough haired (or wire haired) type is less common than the shorthaired.
The Dutch Shepherd's body is muscular and symmetrical. The chest is deep. The dog's muzzle is long. Unlike the Belgian Shepherd or the German Shepherd Dog, the Dutch Shepherd is not known for its beauty. However, they are pleasant, wise, and friendly; shows affection and is easy to train.
Height: around 22-25 inches.
Weight: around 65-67 pounds.
Temperament
Dutch Shepherds are excellent all round utiltiy dogs, competent at agility, obedience competitions, guard work, herding, field trailing and companionship. They love attention and love to learn. A big yard and plenty of exercise and entertainment required. They make excellent family and guard dogs. They are ok with children, but less so with younger children who may accidentally hurt or fall on them resulting in a growl or nip.
Health
As with most working breeds, they ahve few health problems as animals were selected for strength, fitness, health and skill rather than appearance and breed conformity. Expect your Dutch Shepherd to live to 13-15 years.
