Yellow Pet Spiders

Yellow pet spiders make great first pets as they are mostly small, and harmless to humans. Not very popular as pet spiders, some yellow colored spiders are too small and sometimes too boring. But yellow pet spiders, such as a pet Banana spider, a pet crab spider or even a pet Garden Orb weaver spider, are all known to be entertaining and easy to maintain. Before you rush off to get yourself your very own yellow pet spider, it advised that you read on to find out more about them.

A particularly stunning example of a yellow spider is the Misumena vatia, which is species of crab spider. Now these spiders can also be white, but if you have yellow flowers in your garden, you can just place your pet crab spider on it, and voila, it will turn yellow in about 10-25 days. So it is relatively easy to get yourself a yellow pet spider, of the crab spider variety at least.

Apart from the crab spider, a pet banana spider also makes a great yellow pet spider. These stunning spiders, known for their distinct black and yellow coloration, are relatively harmless to humans, and can be easily kept in small containers. Banana spiders spin erratic webs, and these are very interesting to watch. Now these webs can get quiet wide, so you will need to provide a large enough enclosure for your pet banana spider.

The Garden Orb weaver spider, on the other hand, comes from a very large family of spiders, and is known in particular for their stunning round webs. The outer spirals of the web are made of sticky threads to trap prey, whereas the inner spirals are stronger and dryer. Growing up to 24 mm in females and about 16 mm in males, these spiders spend daytime hiding in a retreat, which can be leaves or branches in their natural habitat, or a plants or a similar hiding place in their pet spider habitat.

All yellow pet spiders eat insects, preferably much smaller than themselves. In case you are feeding your spider an insect larger than itself, like for example an adult grasshopper, you  will need to make sure that it is well fed, before putting it inside the pet spider enclosure. This is to avoid the prey eating your pet spider. Also, make sure all insects are pesticide free before you feed them to your pet spider, as this is harmful for your yellow pet spider. Most of these spiders do not have high water needs, so placing a wet sponge in the enclosure should suffice for their water needs, though it needs to be changed regularly. Do not put water dishes larger than the spider in to the pet enclosure as this can cause the spider to drown.  Due to their small size, it is easy to misplace them, especially during cleaning, so be careful when handling yellow pet spiders.
