Black Pet Spiders

Modified: 30-11--0001 00:00:00

Black pet spiders have always held a unique place in the hearts of spider lovers. Remarkable in shape and size, this variety of spiders is also considered as the more dangerous or venomous, though the most venomous spider in the world, the Brazilian Wandering spider, is not black. Black pet spiders are generally not ideal pets for beginners, or people who are not experienced spider handlers. For people wanting to keep black pet spiders, the most common option is pet black widow spiders, though this is extremely risky.

Black widow spiders are not as impressive in size as tarantulas, but those gentle giants seem like babies in front of these venomous spiders. A pet black widow spider will only grow up to 1.5 inches in leg span, and only about half an inch in body size, while males are just half of these. But the most dangerous part of these spiders is their venom, which is a strong neurotoxin, which if left untreated can even result in death.

A pet black widow spider is ideal if it is a male, as they do not bite and are quite small in size. But for most spider owners, it is the risk involved with keeping a female pet black widow spider, which is the key motivating factor. The most distinctive physical feature of black widow spiders is the red hourglass mark, which in some cases might just be two red spots, found on the abdomen of the spider. This contrast of bright red on glossy black, adds to its sinister appearance.

Apart from the Black Widow spider, another species of black spiders is another venomous variety, the Black House spider. But unlike its black counterpart, these spiders are not dangerous to humans. A common type of Australian pet spider, these spiders can go up to 18 mm in females and about 9mm in males. Since these spiders construct funnel-shaped webs, they are often confused for the deadly Funnel-web spider, but in fact, black house spiders build webs high above the ground, while Funnel-web spiders burrow into the ground, and their bites can only cause local pain, or slight swelling, whereas Funnel-web spider bites can be deadly.

Whichever be your choice of a black pet spider, remember that they are not ideal pets for families, which have small children or many other pets. If you are a spider enthusiast who has extensive experience with spiders, then probably a black pet spider is suited for you.
