Founded in 1958 as the ACT's first dog training club, the ACT Companion Dog Club helps people learn how to train their dogs. Classes are held in basic obedience, agility, flyball and Dances with Dogs (DWD) as well as in advanced exercises for those members who wish to pursue competition in obedience, agility, flyball, DWD or tracking trials.

CDC teaches all levels of obedience whether you just want a well behaved pet or would like to trial competitively. All classes are taught using motivational techniques - see our training principles page. Our basic classes start with Beginners and then progress to Intermediate and Advanced.

Dogs then proceed to our Transition level that starts progressing the training and challenging the handler and the dog. It is after this class that the handler can make a choice to pursue competitive Obedience training (Novice, Graduate, Open and Utility) or to proceed down our Companion stream (Primary and Secondary). Both choices allow you to further your dog's training and are enjoyable for both dog and handler … and you can swap between them if so desired
